Ingredients – Plain Flour, Butter, Sugar, Semolina, Raisins, Sultanas, Ginger Preserve, Chow Chow Preserve, Mixed Candied Peel, Currants, Pumpkin Preserve, Cashews, Brandy, Rose Essence, Eggs, Ground Spices and Honey


Christmas in Sri Lanka is a very special time, and this Christmas cake is not the usual fruit cake. After adopting the Christmas cake tradition from the British, we have added our own twist. There are several different variations of this recipe from household to household.

This is another family recipe that’s been passed onto me, and my all-time favourite cake to make. This cake is very rich with all the fruits, nuts, and eggs, at the same time spiced with ground spices like cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg.

Along with dried fruits, Sri Lankan preserved fruits like chow chow and candied pumpkin were added to this special cake.

Super moist, rich, and delicious. The older the cake gets the tastier it will be. Can be added to a Christmas hamper or as a gift on its own. Great with a cup of tea or coffee.

Please note: Almond icing is not added to the top of the cake.

storage – Store in a cool, dry place and can be kept for over a year.
